That others may be praised and I go unnoticed

No Longer Hungry ….
Holiness = becoming less hungry for what the world offers

There is a hunger in the human heart that no amount of praise can satisfy.
The hunger to be seen.
To be affirmed.
To matter.

The strange thing is that recognition never cures this hunger. It only feeds it for a moment before demanding more.
More attention.
More approval.
More proof.

St. Francis discovered that instead of trying to fill the hunger, he allowed God to remove it. This is why the Litany of Humility is so radical. It is not asking God to make us invisible. It is asking Him to free us from needing visibility. A bird does not need applause to fly. A flower does not need recognition to bloom. The sun does not ask who noticed its sunrise. They simply become what they were created to be. The soul is the same.

The closer it comes to God, the less it needs witnesses. It is freedom from the exhausting need to draw life from the opinions of others. Imagine how much energy is spent trying to manage how we are perceived. Imagine how much peace would come if we no longer needed to.

The saints are not people who learned how to gain admiration. They are people who lost their appetite for it. And once that hunger is gone, a person becomes astonishingly free.
Free to love.
Free to serve.
Free to disappear.
Free because nothing can be taken from someone who no longer needs what the world is offering.

O Jesus, meek and humble of heart, hear me. That others may be praised and I go unnoticed, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. + Litany of Humility
