Franciscan Prayers

O glorious St. Anthony, Safe refuge of the afflicted and distressed, by miraculous revelation you have directed all those who seek aid to come to your altar with the promise that whoever visits it and there devoutly invokes you, for the nine consecutive Tuesdays, will feel the power of your intercession. Encouraged by this promise, I, a poor sinner, come to you, O powerful saint. With a firm hope I implore your aid, your protection, Your counsel and your blessing. Obtain for me, I beseech you my request in this necessity (mention it) … But if it should be opposed to the will of God and my spiritual welfare, obtain for me other graces that will be helpful for my salvation. Praise and honor be given You, Lord Jesus Christ, by reason of the of Sacred Wound in your Right Hand. By this holy and adorable wound, I beseech you to pardon all of the sins that I have committed by thought, word, and deed; by neglecting my service to you, and by self-indulgence, both while awake and asleep. Grant me the grace, that by devout and frequent remembrance of your Holy Passion, I may honor your sacred wounds and the death which you endured for my sake; and that by chastising my body, I may testify my gratitude for your sufferings and your death. O Lord Jesus Christ, who, when the world was growing cold, in order to inflame our hearts with the fire of your love, renewed the scared marks of your suffering on the body of our blessed father Francis, mercifully grant that by his merits and prayers we may persevere in bearing the cross and bring forth worthy fruits of penance. Who live and reign, world without end. Amen.

Dear St. Bonaventure Cardinal, Bishop and Doctor of the Church, you chose a life that embraced mortification and great humiliation. Choosing to serve those individuals who were rejected and sick you risked illness for yourself. You made your life a continuous prayer and spent hours meditating on the wounds of Christ. Please pray for us that we may have a sincere and humble heart. Pray that we may not lose sight of Jesus’ wounds and thus walk on the straight path to eternal salvation. May we take a great many souls with us to Our Heavenly Father.

Poor and humble Saint Francis, through your kind intercession we seek to love God above all things. We seek the faith, hope and love that moved you to joyfully renounce honors and riches and to radically follow our Lord Jesus Christ.

O Seraphic Saint Clare, first disciple of the Poor Man of Assisi, who hast abandoned all riches and honours for a life of sacrifice and of highest poverty, obtain from God for us the grace we ask (State your intention here…), that of always submitting to the Divine Will and of living confidently in the providence of our Heavenly Father.
