Jubilee  / 800

Franciscan Jubilee Year for the 800th Anniversary of the Transit of St. Francis of Assisi.

Pope Leo XIV has proclaimed a “Special Year of St. Francis” to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the saint’s death. The Apostolic Penitentiary grants the plenary indulgence under the usual conditions to those who participate devoutly in this extraordinary jubilee, which represents an ideal continuation of the Ordinary Jubilee of 2025.

» From the 10th January 2026 to the 10th January 2027

Requirements

Conditions for receiving the Indulgence
(for oneself or for the deceased)

» Sacramental confession to be in God’s grace (in the eight days before or after)
» Participation in Mass and Eucharistic Communion
» To visit in the form of a pilgrimage any Franciscan conventual church or place of worship dedicated to St. Francis anywhere in the world
» The recitation of the Lord’s Prayer, to reaffirm the dignity of children of God, received in Baptism
» To pray for the intentions of the Holy Father

The elderly, the sick and those who take care of them and all those who for serious reasons are unable to leave their homes, will also be able to obtain the Plenary Indulgence, provided that they are detached from any sin and intend to fulfill the three usual conditions as soon as possible, if they join spiritually in the Jubilee celebrations of the Year of St. Francis, offering their prayers to the Merciful God, the pains or sufferings of one’s life.

Holy Father Leo XIV Prayer For Franciscan Jubilee

Saint Francis, our brother, you who eight hundred years ago
went to meet Sister Death as a man at peace,
intercede for us with the Lord.

In the Crucifix of San Damiano you recognized true peace,
teach us to seek in Him the source of all reconciliation
that breaks down every wall.

You who, unarmed, crossed the lines of war
and misunderstanding,
give us the courage to build bridges
where the world erects borders,

In this time plagued by conflict and division,
intercede so that we may become peacemakers:
unarmed and disarming witnesses of the peace that comes from Christ.
Amen.
