Salt is not on the menu but when it’s missing you can feel it…

Salt is rarely the centrepiece of a meal. It doesn’t draw attention to itself, it doesn’t demand recognition, yet the moment it’s missing, everything feels flat.
In the same quiet way, holiness often works unseen. St Francis didn’t try to be noticed. He chose simplicity, humility, and a life that blended into the ordinary rhythms of the world. But wherever he went, something changed. Hearts softened. Peace settled. Joy became tangible. Like salt, his presence transformed everything without ever needing to be the focus. We often look for big moments to make a difference. Something visible. Something impressive. But the Gospel invites us into something deeper: to become the quiet influence that brings life, flavour, and light to the spaces we inhabit.

Sometimes it’s:
🔸️ choosing kindness when it would be easier to stay silent
🔸️ offering patience when others are rushed or harsh
🔸️ bringing peace into tension rather than adding to the noise
🔸️ living with integrity when no one is watching

These are small acts but they carry a lasting impact.

Because when “salt” is missing in our homes, workplaces, or communities, we feel it. Something essential is gone. But when it’s present, even quietly, it changes everything. Like St Francis, we are not called to stand out for the sake of it, but to live in such a way that the world is better because we were there.

Be the salt. Not loud, not seen, but deeply felt.
