My sheep hear my voice

I know them and they follow me

Here’s the uncomfortable truth:
We all follow a voice.
The voice of approval.
The voice of fear.
The voice of comfort.

The voice that says “play it safe,” or “prove yourself,” or “just blend in.”
St Francis walked away from those voices, because he realized they were too small. They couldn’t lead him to life.

Instead, he learned the voice of Christ:
Quiet, but steady.
Simple, but demanding.
Never forcing but always inviting.

And once he recognized it, he followed whether it led him to rebuild a broken chapel, embrace a leper, or let go of everything he thought he needed.

That’s the difference. The Shepherd’s voice doesn’t just inform you. It reorders you.

So how do you actually learn that voice?

  • Cut some of the noise to notice what’s been forming you. Silence isn’t empty it reveals what’s already speaking inside you.
  • Stay close to the Gospel. The more you sit with Christ’s words, the more His tone becomes familiar.
  • Act on the small promptings. The Shepherd’s voice is often subtle. If you ignore the small things, you won’t recognize the big ones.
  • Check the fruit. His voice leads to clarity, humility, and real freedom, not pressure, comparison, or anxiety disguised as urgency.

Who you listen to shapes everything …
